What's On

Big in Falkirk

What is the HELIX?

Falkirk and Grangemouth contain a cluster of neighbouring communities with a great legacy of social, economic and cultural contribution far and wide.

These communities are growing in confidence and feel their time has arrived to step out of the industrial shadows of the past and create a place that inspires, educates and endures. With the successes arising from 'My Future's in Falkirk' there is growing confidence in people, place, culture and enterprise and an energy and aspiration to do more.

Working with local people, Falkirk Council, British Waterways Scotland and Central Scotland Forest Trust want to use the HELIX to create a living landmark, a new green heart pumping life into the area, which will become a great place to live, work, visit and invest.

Connecting places and people

Connections between communities and place are central to our HELIX project, with improved place providing the foundations upon which to build community action.

This action is what our long-term project is about: people, engagement, better life opportunities, a more sustainable, successful and brighter future.

To achieve this, we will develop a more inclusive, more extended level of engagement merging innovation, fresh thinking, open minds and a commitment to listening, to understanding and to new structures.

We will:

  • work with the community, and with the BIG Lottery, to develop our vision, aims and objectives and integrate resources to deliver the HELIX
  • commit our considerable expertise and skills (with an excellent track record) to deliver the initial physical developments
  • live up to the HELIX ethos by ensuring we work in ways which are focused on people and community, are engaging, enabling, not controlling and recognise that we are only guardians of the project and the place
  • deliver a place of real quality and a living legacy which enshrines our ambition for a sustainable society, environment and economy, taken forward by the community for the community

We are committed to meeting this challenge.
