What will the HELIX do for the area?
The HELIX project's commitment to place identifies a heritage linked to the Forth, the Forth and Clyde Canal and the River Carron.

The HELIX plan| for the area comprises six main elements:

Kelpies: iconic public artworks, the largest equine sculptures in the world, and the first displacement lock for the Scottish lowland canal network

Sentinels: public arts programme to build a suite of Sentinels (community public art projects) as representatives of community stewardship

Central Park: the most innovative contemporary 'peoples park' in Scotland since the setting out of Princes Street Gardens

Canal Link: a new Gateway offering a radical improvement between the Forth and Scotland's inland waterways and connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal with the River Carron

Canal Hub: a new leisure and recreation destination for Scotland, incorporating extended marina facilities and offering new waterside leisure within a dramatic new landscape setting

New landscape: a new and special quality of place that transforms the opportunities for communities
These main elements of the HELIX will create a new and special quality of place that transforms the opportunities for communities. The area will also include the following:

regeneration and the transformation of 500ha (1250 acres) devalued urban fringe into modern greenspace

a skateboard park linked with further development of the community stadium facilities

community allotments

habitat enhancement and the development of new nature reserves, wetlands and broadleaf native woodlands

path networks connecting communities and addressing safe, inclusive access

environmental stewardship, offering sustainable management based on community participation
