The HELIX

Woodlands and people enjoying outdoor pursuits

The HELIX will provide an actively managed, community-led landscape connecting Falkirk and Grangemouth to secure the:

  • engagement of ten local communities and wider communities of interest
  • transformation of some 400 hectares of blighted urban fringe landscape into a new dynamic green network
  • creation of new woodlands and other habitats to support a new landscape and greenspace network of long-term value and potential
  • establishment of new barrier-free pathways and cycleways connecting communities, facilities, employment, leisure and residential areas
  • creation of a new waterway, improving links between the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Forth Estuary overcoming historic obstacles to navigation and establishing a new Lowland Canal Gateway
  • managing the greenspace and wider HELIX infrastructure through a new Community Trust
