What will the HELIX do for local enterprise?
Our shared vision is informed by nine underpinning aims which sit at the heart of policy, community planning and the mandates of our partners.
Our shared vision will require us to develop new ways to connect the HELIX to mainstream programmes and project initiatives. Our enterprise aims are:
Improve life chances
Through learning and improved life chances are aim is to enable individuals, communities and the local economy to flourish.
We will work with landowners, businesses and the Enterprise Network to identify their needs and constraints and to understand how the HELIX can contribute to improving the circumstances for individuals and enterprise, effectively the HELIX as a 'college' for personal development.
Key to this will be the sustained input and effort of HELIX Futures in:
-
supporting lifelong learning
-
providing access to training and development
-
providing employment
-
supporting the business community and facilitating change
-
raising environmental and social standards in business activity
-
encouraging active citizens and community cohesion
Economic development
Economic development is the second of our aims directed at supporting existing businesses, encouraging innovation and enterprise and assisting community economic development.
With the active engagement and participation of landowners, tenants and businesses the HELIX will seek to:
-
develop the HELIX brand and HELIX product range
-
increase access to employment and support businesses
-
support community capacity building through HELIX Futures
-
encourage business diversification, particularly in respect of sustainable development and community enterprises
-
promote better conservation, use and recycling of resources
Tourism
Tourism is one of our aims arising from making a special place which will help to build confidence within and transform external perceptions of Falkirk and Grangemouth.
We want the HELIX site to deliver leisure and recreational opportunities for local people, to diversify the tourism offer to bring in new visitors to Falkirk and to extend the period of stay and expenditure of visitors. We also want local communities and local businesses to be proud of and want to be associated with the HELIX.
Engagement in this process is essential to understand the issues that businesses, land owners and local people might face in getting involved and to ensure our new place is rooted in a cultural renaissance that, for Enterprise, addresses:
-
expanding the tourism and recreational offer
-
promoting the HELIX Brand and product range
-
site development and management creating future opportunities for enterprise
-
increased civic pride
