Social Care Officer Technician 

The Social Care Officer works with people with a hearing and/or visual impairment to maintain their independence, dignity and self-respect in their own homes. Some of the ways in which this can be done are by:
  • ensuring people have support from their family, friends or neighbours on a regular basis
  • helping people to maintain their own hearing aids and ensure they have the most suitable aid for their needs
  • providing information and advice in relation to Visual Impairment and Hearing Impairment
  • provide or arrange assessments
  • helping people access additional services e.g. Occupational Therapy, Rehabilitation Worker to provide training on cooking or getting around independently
  • providing specialist equipment to help with daily living
  • reviewing financial needs, if required and ensuring people have their full welfare benefit entitlements
  • working with other Sensory Impairment Team colleagues or other professionals as required
  • support people to reduce social isolation
  • support people to gain new skills or regain skills
