Tripshare Falkirk
Tripshare Falkirk is the online travel sharing system for everyone travelling to, from or around the Falkirk Council area.
Almost 4,000 people across South East Scotland have already discovered that they can make real financial savings on fuel, parking charges and wear and tear on their cars, as well as helping to tackle congestion and reduce pollution by joining Tripshare and sharing their car journeys. Typically, members can expect to save an average of over £1,000 a year through car sharing.
The service is free and easy to use. Members can store their details securely, with only travel details accessible to other participants. Women can specify female-only travel companions and members can select individual preferences; such as smoking or non-smoking.
SEStran Chair, Cllr Russell Imrie said: 'Tripshare continues to go from strength to strength, as people realise that car sharing is a sensible commuting option that offers them real benefits. We are well on target for exceeding 4,500 members by the end of 2007. That means thousands fewer cars on the roads, less congestion and a smaller carbon footprint for South East Scotland.
'TripshareFalkirk.com is making a growing contribution towards tackling the region's congestion problems. To mark the scheme's first birthday, we decided to offer something that would reward participation in a sustainable way. The breakdown cover provided by ETA is a practical way of giving people travelling by car peace of mind, while contributing towards SEStran's aim of building a sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation system.'
Councillor Adrian Mahoney, Convener of Falkirk Council's Environment and Heritage Committee added: 'We're pleased with the initial response toTripshareFalkirk.com - which encourages people to car share - but we also want more people to take part.
'The scheme reduces congestion and pollution on our roads. Best of all, sharing journeys means sharing the cost - and that can only be a good thing for commuters.
'To date, the scheme has had an initial take-up of around 200 members in the Falkirk area, leading to savings of more than 70,000 miles. Hopefully even more people will join the scheme in the months to come. It's free to join, just visit www.tripsharefalkirk.com| to sign-up.'
