Civil Marriage in Falkirk
We are delighted that you have chosen to celebrate your marriage in the Falkirk area and look forward to assisting you in the planning of this special day.
Falkirk Council prides itself in offering a high standard of accommodation for civil marriages whether you choose one of the Council's five ceremony rooms| or the wide range of approved civil marriage venues| within the Falkirk area.
Falkirk Council's experienced registration team has been enhanced with the appointment of a Ceremonies Co-ordinator| to assist couples from the initial booking of a registrar to the planning of this very special ceremony.
We want to make your wedding ceremony unique to you and whether you are planning a large traditional wedding or a quiet intimate ceremony we will make every effort to comply with your wishes. We encourage you to incorporate readings, poetry and music into your marriage ceremony or indeed personal declarations to each other, as well as the Statutory Declarations you must make. The only condition is that all readings, music etc, must be of a secular nature, a civil marriage is a non-religious marriage and this must be reflected in the complete content of the ceremony. There is also a suggested "order of service|" to use as a guide when planning your ceremony as it notes appropriate places to introduce readings or poetry. The number of readings is a personal choice and a lovely way to involve family and friends on this very special day.
A few weeks before your marriage the Ceremonies Co-ordinator will notify you of which registrar will conducting you marriage ceremony and you will be asked to complete a Ceremony Detail Sheet requesting information e.g. names bridal party: readings/readers etc. The information you provide will be forwarded to the officiating registrar who will make direct contact with you to organise (if desired) a meeting prior to your wedding day. A meeting offers the opportunity to discuss the "order of ceremony" and for the registrar to check that all the details on the Marriage Schedule are correct and to answer any questions or concerns you may have and even calm any last minute nerves.
After your marriage ceremony the legalities of this special day are finalised with the signing of a very important document the Marriage Schedule. The Marriage Schedule will be signed by the bride, groom, officiating registrar and two witnesses*.
*You will have been informed that you require to have two witnesses both aged 16 years or over and capable of understanding the ceremony present at the ceremony (traditionally best man and bridesmaid).
The Marriage Schedule will remain in the safe keeping of the officiating registrar who will return it to the issuing registration office where your marriage will be registered and your marriage certificate posted out to you.
