Community Based Adult Learning
Community Based Adult Learning takes place in local venues throughout the Falkirk Council area and is for anyone who wants to develop skills and confidence in a group setting. It is free, with crèche and the programme is flexible according to the group's needs.
It is about first step learning and is designed for adults who perhaps have been out of learning for some time.
Community based adult learning can simply be basic introductory IT classes or it can be for people who want to brush up their reading, writing or number skills. Some courses focus on personal development and include confidence, assertiveness, goal setting, relationships and interview skills.
Others focus on group programmes, designed around local issues identified by the group, for example 'Health Issues in the Community' or a course for a specific organisation.
All programmes are designed to allow progress onto other learning, either self supported or perhaps a College course. Learners are offered guidance to help them make choices appropriate to their needs.
In addition, to the above which is provided by the Community Education Service some community based adult learning programmes are provided by local community centre committees, voluntary organisations like the Workers Educational Association and by Forth Valley College of Further and Higher Education.
