Big-hearted volunteers are being sought across Forth Valley to support people living with heart problems.
The Braveheart Association was set up ten years ago as a project to examine the benefits of mentoring for older people with cardiovascular disease. Those who received support showed big improvements in health and lifestyle changes. Braveheart has now grown and developed into a thriving voluntary group that supports adults of all ages living with heart problems in Forth Valley.
Braveheart, which is part-funded by NHS Forth Valley, requires volunteers to run healthy living groups for those with coronary heart disease. Volunteers are provided with full training, and all that is required is two spare hours a week, an interest in heart health and a desire to help others.
Before volunteers decide whether they want to run groups, they will be invited to an open evening and have the chance to meet and talk to trained volunteers and trainers. If you do wish to continue you’ll receive 30 hours of training and will be partnered with another volunteer to run a group for one year.
