Town Centres' Strategy

Plans for Bo`ness and aerial photo of Grangemouth

In January 2001, Falkirk Council Policy and Resources Committee approved the Regeneration Strategy for the four district centres.

Support for the Town Centres Strategy is highlighted throughout the Community Plan for the Falkirk Council area in terms of creating and sustaining an environment in which people want to live, work and visit. The Strategy has a significant role to play within the current Government and Council drive towards realising economic development potential in the area and is an integral component of the Corporate Regeneration Strategy.

Whilst a generalised development 'template' approach has been examined, detailed work relative to each town centre suggests that a customised and individual approach in each town is required to produce the best results. This involves the Council managing the development of the town centres via a co-ordinated multi-agency approach which includes an enhanced Town Centre Management Company, Central Scotland Police, SEFV, Scottish Executive, Forth Valley Health Care Trust, Townscape Heritage Initiative and Scottish Historic Buildings Trust.

Inherent within the Town Centres Strategy are the following aims:-

  • To increase confidence and promote sustainable economic and commercial growth.
  • To initiate regeneration projects.
  • To enhance access approval and confidence within the Town Centres, and support partnership working.
  • To ensure effective research and management to enable continuous improvements.
