Community Education Centres
There are Community Centres throughout the Falkirk Council area. Why not find your local centre and join in with some of the activities that are on offer?
The centres vary in size from small community wings, such as that at Shieldhill, to large centres with sports halls and cafe areas, such as Bonnybridge, Camelon and Slamannan.
Who manages the centres?
Most of the centres have local management committees consisting of community and user group representatives who have responsibility for advising and developing the centres, and the programmes of activities. Some of the centres are also leased to a local committee or a Community Education Association.
Who works at the centres?
The Community Education Service support these centres through staffing and property costs, including repairs and maintenance.
Staffing varies according to the size of the facility and the nature of local community needs. It includes support from a local Community Education Worker and, in most cases, also includes ancillary on-site staff such as Centre Co-ordinators, Caretakers or Clerical Assistants.
Who can use the centres?
We want to see centres used to their maximum by the local community and local groups and organisations, which is why we encourage and support the development of local Management Committees and Community Associations.
