Community Schools 2008 Project
Four new state of the art schools for Falkirk are a significant stage closer after Falkirk Council announced its preferred bidder for the £100m contract.
The Gateway Consortium, based in Stirling, will take on the replacements for Falkirk, St Mungo’s, Denny and Grangemouth High Schools. Following agreement of the Preferred Bidder terms, Gateway will work with the Council’s Project Team towards concluding final contracts.
Following wide-scale public consultation over the location and design of the new schools, many of the suggestions made by the public, school staff, school boards, pupils and trade unions were incorporated into the finalised design.
Teaching, catering and support staff from the current schools will move to the new schools while the tender to supply cleaning services (a distinct element of tender) was secured by existing Falkirk Council Commercial Services employees meaning 65 jobs are preserved.
All of the new schools will incorporate innovative design with a strong sustainability element that will act as a natural ‘focal point’ for their communities and will provide a safe and stimulating environment for staff and pupils. Emphasis will be given to accessing the schools safely with priority given to walking, cycling and public transport.
It is expected that the schools will be ready to open in 2008.
