Crime Prevention and Reduction

Community Police officer and Safer Central logo

Safer Central

Since the launch of Safer Central| in 2001 the communities of Central Scotland have benefited from the success of numerous campaigns. With an emphasis on intelligence gathering and analysis, the Safer Central philosophy is to listen to communities concerns and respond in an appropriate manner. Each operation is planned so that crime hot-spots are identified and targeted and this has proved to be an effective method of reducing crime.

Results

  • In the last financial year there have been over 300 Safer Central operations carried out.
  • Over the same period 230 drug dealers have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
  • 201 crimes were detected in a single two-week operation by Stirling CID.
  • £1 million of suspected criminal assets have been restrained since April 2004.
  • Central Scotland has one of the lowest crime rates in the UK.
  • We also have one of the highest detection rates in the UK.
  • £2.6 million, street value, of drugs has been recovered since Safer Central was launched.

The five main initiatives of Safer Central are:

  • Safeguard - Tackling violent crime
  • Reassurance – Making people feel safer
  • Overlord – Tackling the dealers
  • Tundra – Making our roads safer
  • Advance – Moving the force forward

Safer Falkirk

The Falkirk and District Community Safety Panel is run by a voluntary group of people who meet at Falkirk police office every 4-6 weeks. The group is committed to pursuing traditional and new ideas to make the Falkirk area a safer place in which to work and live.

Matters concerning the community and personal safety are raised and new ideas submitted for discussion. If you have an idea which you would like to put to the group contact the safety panel| who will tell you when the next meeting is.
