Shieldhill Young Crew
Shieldhill Young Crew (Shieldhill Youth Club or SYC) was formed in 2003 to provide the youth with somewhere to go of an evening.
The club was started by John and Ann Henderson. John has lived and grown up in Shieldhill and Ann in California. After going through their security checks John and Ann with several helpers, the approval of both Falkirk Council and the Police got the club up and running.
John and Ann still run the club as leaders and are currently helped by Maria Montinaro and Jit Singh. All have full-time jobs and run the club for the benefit of the local youth. The work is challenging at times but also rewarding.
SYC operates during school term time on a Monday night from 7.00pm to 9.00pm in the Community Wing adjacent to Shieldhill Primary School.
Some of the activities club members have participated in since SYC opened include:
-
abseiling
-
canoeing
-
karting
-
mountain biking
-
sailing
-
sponsored cycle
-
ten-pin bowling
SYC members have also helped at litterpick events in the village.
SYC Rules
SYC members agree to abide by the club's rules, which form part of the membership form and are also posted on the club's noticeboard. The club rules were drawn up by the original members in 2003.
