Area Forums
Role of Area Forums
Area forums provide an opportunity for local people to meet with councillors and Council representatives to express their views and debate local issues and proposals.
There are regular presentations and question and answer sessions so that people can find out about local initiatives. These presentations cover a wide variety of topics including: community and local planning; transport and traffic; litter strategies; local education; and town centre development.
Area forums bring Council Services closer to the public: they allow the Council to work with communities in the implementation of plans and policies and to find local solutions to local problems.
Any member of the community is welcome to attend their local area forum and take part in meetings. For details of your nearest area forum, you can:
Meetings
The area forums meet around every eight weeks at a community location within your area. Minutes of the meeting are sent to the Council's Policy Resources Committee. For details of meetings look out for adverts in the local press or check the Committee Information System on the Falkirk Council website|.
Alternatively, please see the area forum information within your local area pages of this section.
The Area Forum Core Group produces the agenda for meetings but Council Services and other public agencies and community groups can request items for the agenda and make presentations to the area forum. Each meeting also has an open question time to allow members of the community to raise issues.
The Area Forum Core Group
The Area Forum Core Group consists of:
-
local councillors
-
the local unit commander from Central Scotland Police
-
appropriate representation from each Community Council in the area
-
representatives from other local community groups
The Area Forum Core Group is chaired by the Area Forum Convener, who will be a local councillor for the area. Once elected, the convener will remain in place until they choose to stand down.
